Bedtime Hot Chocolate ft. Organika RELAX Collagen

That sudden feeling late at night when your tummy starts to grumble OR a restless mind accompanied by tense muscles . . . here's a quick recipe for that!

It's easy to digest and will help you relax before sleep (or when you're feeling super stressed).

Oh, and it has 9g of protein per cup !!!

A blend of only 4 ingredients:

  • unsweetened cocoa powder

  • monk fruit (or honey)

  • Organika RELAX Collagen powder

  • unsweetened oat milk

The beauty sleep ingredient:

Organika RELAX Collagen

Collagen is a protein, the most abundant kind found in the human body. We find it in our hair, skin, nails, bones, cartilage, and muscles. I adore collagen as a daily staple food for myself as it has numerous health & beauty benefits from protecting our organs, giving our skin strength + elasticity, joint & muscle recovery, and healing our digestive lining.

Organika is best known for its collagen supplements, especially because it's a well-praised Canadian brand. Their collagen product range is incredibly diverse and always expanding !!!

For this particular bedtime recipe, I had to use their RELAX collagen powder.

As a large protein, collagen is naturally plentiful in amino acids. Amino acids can be compared to tiny LEGO pieces, aka the individual building blocks for protein.

Organika's collagen is special because the collagen is hydrolyzed.

Hydrolyzed collagen means the collagen has been broken down into its simpler components, making it easier to digest & readily use throughout your body.

But on top of that, this particular collagen product is a RELAX blend. L-theanine + magnesium bisglycinate have been strategically added.

  • L-theanine is an amino acid best known in countless studies for promoting relaxation and reducing stress without the drowsy feeling.

  • Magnesium bisglycinate is a form of magnesium where it is bound to the amino acid glycine for higher bioavailability (better absorbed & used by the body). Like L-theanine, it helps calm the brain and promote better sleep. Its benefits extends beyond relaxation, like bone health and blood sugar control.

No more time to waste.

Let's make one now before it gets really late!

Prep: 1 min

Total: 5 mins

INGREDIENTS:

2 tsp cocoa powder, unsweetened (I got mines from Amazon)

2-3 tsp monk fruit sugar or honey (I like monk fruit as a sugar alternative)

1/3 cup unsweetened oat milk (I used Silk)

1/2 cup water

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) In a cup, combine all the ingredients.

2) Blend together using a frother or whisk.

3) Pour in hot (or cold) water.

4) RELAX & ENJOY !

Darlene's Notes & Tips:

⭐️ You can totally omit the collagen part, but I highly suggest it so you can take advantage of the protein content it offers. Instead, consider subbing in 1 Tbsp of vanilla/chocolate protein powder.

⭐️ With approval from a health care provider (L-theanine + magnesium bisglycinate), consider offering the kids this before bed ! It's way superior to the processed & sugary Nesquick hot cocoa mix :( Frankly, offer this to anyone !!!

⭐️ This recipe doubles as a chia pudding or overnight oats liquid base.

⭐️ Feel free to slightly warm the oat milk before frothing up all the ingredients together. If you use oat milk straight from the fridge, it will cool your hot chocolate drink.
